Your Google Business Profile, first of all
This is the most important piece for local. It's what puts you on the map and in the panel on the right when someone searches for your service nearby. Create it, fill it out completely (address, hours, phone, photos) and pick the right category. It's free, and plenty of businesses skip it.
Ask for reviews
Your customers' reviews carry real weight in what Google shows, and in what people decide. When a customer is happy, ask them for a few words on your profile. A handful of honest reviews does more than any complicated trick.
A site that speaks your language and your customers'
Your site has to say clearly what you do and where, in the words people actually type. Your town's name should be on it, ideally in French and English. And it needs to be fast and look right on a phone, because that's where most searches happen.
The same information everywhere
Your name, address and phone number should be written exactly the same way on your site, your Google profile, your Facebook page and the directories. When everything matches, Google trusts you more. When it contradicts, it hesitates.
A bit of patience
Search rankings don't happen overnight. Count on a few weeks to a few months to see things move, especially for a new site. The good news, in a region like ours, is that there's less serious competition than in the city, so the effort pays off faster.
