Why your North Shore business needs a website

There are plenty of good businesses on the Côte-Nord that have run for years on word of mouth and a Facebook page. It works, up to a point. Here's what you're missing without a website, and why it's worth thinking about even if you're well established.

Your customers search Google, even here

We tend to think everyone already knows us. But when someone needs a service in Baie-Comeau or Sept-Îles, the first move is to pull out their phone and google it. If they don't find anything solid about you, they call whoever shows up. Not because that business is better, just because it's findable.

A website is yours. A Facebook page isn't

Your Facebook page belongs to Facebook. How far your posts reach depends on their algorithm, which changes when it wants. An account can be locked, a page can disappear. Your website is yours for good. It's your own address on the web, not a room you rent in someone else's house.

It makes you look established

A clean site sends a simple message: this business is serious and it's here to stay. For a new customer choosing between you and a competitor, that matters. Especially if the other one has a site and you don't.

You work even while you sleep

Your hours, your services, your number, your past work: all of it is available any time, even at night, even when you're swamped. The customer finds their answer on their own and writes to you, instead of giving up because nobody picks up at 9 p.m.

But everyone already knows me

Maybe. But there are newcomers, people moving into the region, tourists passing through, and a generation that won't pick up the phone without checking online first. Your current reputation is an asset. A website is what makes it visible to all those people.
